We present a new proof for a "strange" hypergeometric identity conjectured by Gosper, which was first proven by Gasper and Rahman, respectively Ekhad. This proof is based on inversion techniques. It is simpler, shorter and more accessible.
The paper has been finally published under the same title in C. R. Acad. Sci. Paris Sér. I Math. 318 (1994), 505-508.
