Let (pn(x) (n>=0) be a sequence of orthogonal polynomials with respect to a functional L. We propose a calculuation of the functional L(\prod_{i=1}^{m} pni(x)) for the Meixner, Krawtchouk and Charlier polynomials, with the help of combinatorial techniques. This combinatorial approach permits to refine several classical analytical results.

The paper has been finally published under the same title in SIAM J. Math. Anal. 21 (1990), 1349-1368.
