The 1654 correspondence between Fermat and Pascal on problems concerning game of chances is usually assumed as the beginning of the mathematical theory of probability. In this note I examine the contents of the correspondence and the points of the Traité du Triangle Arithmétique where Pascal provided a closed solution of the problems of points between two players. Finally, I will mention the ruin problem and the “wager” that Pascal discussed in his Pensées.
