Following the enactment of the racial laws in 1938, Beppo Levi, like other Italian mathematicians, was forced to emigrate to regain the civil, scientific and academic dignity of which fascism had deprived him. Thanks to the help of Tullio Levi-Civita he was welcomed by the Universidad Nacional del Litoral of Rosario inArgentina, where he remained until his death. The wide-ranging activity of scientific organization, disseminationand training of the young people he carried out in his "second homeland", through teaching, publishing initiatives and the direction of the Instituto de Matemática of that university, allowed him to accomplish the scientific and didactic project started in Italy. The cordial and fruitful relationships established with the Argentine mathematical community and the moral duty to keep alive what he had created, together with other personal and political factors, led him to remain in Argentina even after the end of the World War II.
