The dynamics of the Solar System is used as a model problem with the aim of illustrating the coexistence of order and chaos in our world, on the basis of recent mathematical research. In order to avoid an excess of technicalities attention is first paid to a few simple but significant geometric models of ordered and chaotic systems.Then a model exhibitig a clear coexistence of order and chaos is presented. Finally, a short discussion is devoted to the existence of some concealed chaos in the planetary system. The discussion includes a couple of research works that suggest the possibility of catastrophic events in the past and in the future of our planetary system.
