Some philosophers and mathematicians of the first half of the twentieth century have profoundly changed the common idea of error in scientific knowledge: error isn't something to be deleted and exorcised, but something to be valued as a generative force. This article presents the ideas of F. Enriques and G. Bachelard on the epistemological role of error, comparing them, and showing profound agreement between the two scholars on their common need for a renewed and a more open philosophy of sciences, in relationship to the most current state of new discoveries and new scientific theories. Precisely because of their reflection on error, the two authors contribute to forming a theory of approximate knowledge and a dynamic conception, pluralist and historically open of scientific truth, that is still considered avant-garde.
