On the occasion of the 400th anniversary of the publication of Kepler’s book Harmonices mundi, we show Kepler’s motivation to search for the interrelation between the motion of planets and geometry of their orbits. Briefly described the Kepler’s cosmological model is created by inserting Platonic solids into the space between the spheres of planetary orbits. Kepler’s laws were based essentially on Tycho Brahe’s observations of Mars. At the end of the article, some examples of using the 3rd Kepler’s law for calculations are given.
