The article analyses the detection of radioactive iodine at trace levels in Europe in January 2017. Iodine-131 is radionuclide of anthropogenic origin. We discuss the methods of trace atmospheric radioactivity measurement. We estimate magnitude of radioactive leak and its possible source.
