The article describes an interesting connection between harmonic tetrads on a line and geometrical optics, thus explaining the origin of the name. It is also demonstrated how to apply this connection in the construction of harmonic tetrads. Moreover, the role of harmonic tetrads in the circle of Apollonius is shown.
