In the paper, a new discovery in crystal physics and chemistry is reported. The discovered new structures have been called quasicrystals. The discovery was made by Israeli scientist Daniel Shechtman in the early 1980s. However, at first, Shechtman’s discovery was questioned and even ridiculed. Despite initial rejection of his discovery, Shechtman was awarded Nobel Prize in chemistry in 2011.
