In order to satisfy a historical curiosity, we have bombarded with neutrons uranium and thorium under conditions similar to those used by the Fermi group in 1934, and we have analyzed the products obtained trying to interprete the results obtained 50 years ago. The activities observed by the Rome group seem to be due to a mixture of $Tc^{101}$ and $Mo^{101}$ for the 13m activity generated in uranium. The activity of thorium was correctly interpreted as $Th^{233}$. Other activities are due to mixture of fission products as shown in the paper. The original assertion that their atomic number is not between those of lead and uranium is correct.
