Somites of chick embryos from stage 18-19 HH were cultured in vitro for about one month. Expiants and cell aggregates were prepared. Light microscope observations of the aggregates revealed: multinucleated myotubes often of remarkable dimension and with peripheral nuclei, tubule or vesicle-shaped epithelia, connective elements. In the expiants myotubes, myosacs, some striated fibers, epithelia, connective elements and cartilage nodules were observed. In the discussion embryo age, tissue integrity and cell interactions have been considered.
