The various stages of spermiogenesis in Jacana jacana (Garadriformes) have been studied with the electron microscope. In the young rounded spermatids the acrosome origin and the beginning of the tail are described. Later, during the nuclear elongation and the chromatin condensation, was observed a manchette of microtubules, arranged parallel to the axis of the elongating spermatids. Some sets of microtubules, disposed circumferentially around the nucleus, observed only in the first stage of the spermatid elongation, do non constitute a regular manchette encircling the nucleus as was described in Anseriformes or Galliformes. The arrangement of the mitochondria in the middle piece of the tail occurs only in the last stage of the differentiation. The perforatorium is absent. From the comparative data presented in this paper it can be concluded that this sperm is similar to the sperm of Columbiformes and Cuculiformes but the structure and the arrangement of the microtubular apparatus is very different, during the spermiogenesis.
