During phagocytosis of Chlorella and of Tetrahymena by Amoeba proteus in the presence of homovanillic acid and of horseradish peroxidase the formation of fluorescent compounds has been detected. Such compounds can be attributed to the production of $H_{2}O_{2}$ by Amoeba proteus. The activation induced by phagocytosis in Amoeba is less evident than that of Mammals phagocytic cells, but it can be assumed that also in these Protozoa a similar metabolic system is acting.
