The Mt. Jouf structure (Carnic Prealps) is a typical Cretaceous fold verging to the south and cropping out at the margin of the Friuli Plain (“ ellipsoidal zone”), near Maniago. The observations carried out along the southeastern flank modified the tectonic interpretation which had been formerly given. These evidenced the Mesozoic limestones below, the presence of younger beds referred to Scaglia and Flysch formations of Paleogenie age. The fold therefore is overthrust southwards and the displacement trends WSW-ENE. The new interpretation of the Mt. Jouf structure extends the overthrust style to the “ellipsoidal zone” including also the nearby Cansiglio fold recently interpreted in a different manner.
