Résumé

The formation and development of the chick embryo red blood cells have been examined. A morphological comparison has been made between the primitive red cell series and the definitive series with the electron microscope. Volume of the cells, nuclear structure, number and behaviour of ribosomes allow a differentiation between the two series, while marginal bands of microtubules are similar in the two generations of red blood cells. Particularly emphasized is the appearance of ferritin in erythroblast and erythrocyte cytoplasm; the ferritin aggregates occur both in first and in second red cell series, but they are much more frequent in the primitive ones.
