Prime osservazioni sulla citoarchitettonica cerebellare nei Teleostei

Résumé

The morphology of the Cerebellum was studied in 64 species pertaining to 12 orders of Teleostei. Our observations show that the arrangement of the Purkinje cells is generally similar in the species from the same family, while this uniformity is less strict within the sub-orders and the orders. The comparison of the historical pattern ofthe cerebellar cortex in the different Teleostei shows that: i) the histology of the cerebellar cortex of Ameiurus nebulosus greatly differs from that of other Cypriniformes. This morphological feature has been related to the physiological peculiarity of the afferent cerebellar pathway correlated with the electro-sensitivity of this animal; ii) the histology of the cerebellar cortex of the bottom dwelling Teleostei and of the bony fishes having a slow locomotory behaviour, is marked by a pattern of Purkinje cells lying uppermost in the granular layer. This peculiarity is present in all the species examined, showing the above-mentioned ecological qualification, apart from their sistematic interrelationships; iii) the valvula cerebelli of Perciformes shows a structure, more and more complex, in connection with the increasing activity of the swimming behaviour of the various species.
