Native nickel-iron of the josephinite type occurs in the Balangero asbestos serpentinite deposit. Its chemical analysis was performed: the composition is not far from FeNi3. By means of a detailed prospection the distribution of nickel-iron in the deposit has been examined: this material is disseminated in tiny plates both in the asbestos mineralized rock and in the serpentinite free from asbestos content, and it is associated with nickel sulphides (pentlandite, bravoite, heazlewoodite). Its genesis is referred to an epithermal stage. This evidence has a practical interest in connection with the research which is being carried out regarding the nickel recovery possibilities.
