In questo lavoro si propone un metodo per costruire materialmente gusci sottili partendo dalla loro rappresentazione matematica. I gusci sottili sono oggetti dispessore (relativamente) piccolo, rappresentabili matematicamente come superfici ispessite ovvero come intorni tubolari di una superficie considerata come sottovarietà dello spazio euclideo tridimensionale. Il modello matematico, ottenuto a partire da equazioni della superficie, viene poi tradotto per via informatica in linguaggio macchina. Questo permette di costruire rapidamente e con costi contenuti prototipi dell'oggetto voluto con un procedimento detto Additive manufacturing che consiste nel depositare materiale di varia natura. Il vantaggio del metodo proposto consiste nel fatto che il rimanere finché possibile in ambito matematico descrivendo l'ispessimento a partire da equazioni della superficie evita i problemi che si possono presentare passando immediatamente dalle equazioni alla loro informatizzazione e procedendo poi in questo ambito all'ispessimento, problemi spesso difficili da individuare e da risolvere e che quindi comportano un aggravio di costi e di tempi.
In this article, we propose a method to construct physically thin shells starting from their mathematical representation. Thin shells are objects of (relatively) small thickness; they are mathematically represented by thickened surfaces i.e. tubular neighbourhoods of a surface considered as a submanifold of the 3-dimensional Euclidean space. The mathematical model is obtained from the equations of the surface and then translated via a suitable software in a machine-language.This permits to construct prototypes of shells quickly and with low costs. The description of the thickening of surfaces remaining in mathematical context until possible, has the advantage to avoid problems that may arise when one pass immediately from equations to their computerization and makes later the thickening. These problems are often difficult to detect and to solve, producing thus increases of costs and times.
