This article is an analysis of Don DeLillo's novel Ratner's Star. Its aim is to place the book against the background of European immigration to the East Coast and to underline the connections between an Italian legacy and aspects of American society. The article also compares DeLillo's literary perspective of mathematics with that of “real” mathematicians such as De Giorgi and Volterra.
