This is the first part of a work devoted to the notion of movement and its relationship to the origins of Infinitesimals. In this part we are more concerned by the philosophical aspects and their usual interpretations in history/philosophy of science. The most important question concerns the unity and the multiplicity. The concept of continuity plays a central role and we discuss how it was understood from ancient Greeks philosophers to modern mathematicians, from Plato to Poincaré. In the second part, we present the mathematical and physical aspects of the question.
