Jen málokdy se stane, že v rámci několika generací téže rodiny lze nalézt významné představitele více vědních či kulturních oborů. Takovouto výjimečnou společností se může pochlubit rod Herschelů, mezi jehož představitele patří astronomové, objevitel infračerveného záření, profesionální hudebníci, autoři ilustrací rostlin či průkopníci fotografie, daktyloskopie a spektroskopie.
