The article presents a methodologically interesting and geometrically clear presentation of the concept of a natural logarithm as the area of a hyperbolic trapezoid with a variable vertical boundary. In this case, the author does not need to apply the full theory of integration; it is enough to determine the area of the hyperbolic trapezoid and find out a number of its properties.
