Upgridding’s methods in reservoir modeling

The basic methods of oilfield reservoir model upgridding are reviewed and analyzed. A new formula of upscaling residual calculation is suggested. Under restrictions of reservoir properties uncertainty we propose an estimation method to determine number of layers which can be merged without loss of accuracy. The paper contains analysis of layer merging case studies.
