Direct and inverse problems of oblique radiosounding of ionosphere with waveguids

We consider layered model of ionosphere for which electron concentration depends on height only, but the condition of monotone increase of the electron density is broken, i.e. in the presence of waveguides – valleys. We investigate a method of oblique radio-sounding for an arbitrary direction with respect to the magnetic field of the Earth. For solving the direct problem of radio-sounding in the presence of waveguides we modify the algorithm early proposed by us for the case when waveguides are absent. A special function (the waveguide measure) is introduced to characterize the electron concentration inside waveguide. In particular, this function permits to determine some caracteristics of waveguide and to reconstruct correctly the electron concentration above waveguide, i.e. it is possible to solve the inverse problem above the waveguide. For finding the function of the waveguide measure we propose new methods of the oblique radio-sounding and obtain equation which connects this function with experimentally measured quantities. Numerical experiments show that waveguides give different signals for different functions of measure. The obtained results discover new perspectives in solving the waveguide problem under radio-sounding of ionosphere.
