400th anniversary of Blaise Pascal

This paper is devoted to the 400th anniversary of the great French philosopher, mystic and mathematician Blaise Pascal. We propose here several short biographical data, a glance at his highly appreciated by the philosophers contributions to Christian philosophy, theology and gnosiology and, finally, we discuss his outstanding achievements in mathematics. It concerns Pascal’s remarkable results in the Probability theory – an intensively developing area till now – and his nice theorems (from aesthetical point of view) on hexagons inscribed in conic sections in the plane. His computing machine and interesting results in physics (pressure of fluids) are also discussed. Тази статия е посветена на 400-годишнината от рождението на великия френски философ, мистик и математик Блез Паскал. Последователно се спираме на кратки биографични данни от неговия живот, на високо ценения от философите негов принос в християнската философия, теология и гносеология, и най-сетне, на неговото впечатляващо дело в математиката, включително създаването на първата изчислителна машина, на забележителните му постижения в теорията на вероятностите, които продължават да се развиват и до наши дни, на красивите му теореми за шестоъгълници, вписани в конични сечения, и техните елегантни доказателства. Споменали сме и някои негови резултати в областта на физиката.
