The History of the International Conference on Geometry and Graphics -- One Person's Reflection

This paper documents the history related to the establishment of the International Society for Geometry and Graphics (ISGG) as well as how the International Conference on Geometry and Graphics (ICGG) impacted the establishment of the ISGG. The first International Conference on Descriptive Geometry occurred in 1978 at the University of British Columbia, Canada. It provided the opportunity for geometry and graphic professionals from throughout the world to meet, exchange ideas, and discuss new developments and applications of descriptive geometry. The momentum resulting from this conference was able to be used to bring about future conferences that enabled the establishment of the ISGG as well as the ICGG. As a result, there has been an international conference approximately every two years since 1984 and during the early part of this history, the "founders" met frequently at the international conference and eventually established the International Society for Geometry and Graphics. This paper details the first four conferences and the impact these conferences had on establishing the ISGG as well as the people involved in making this happen.
