Stephen Simons has authored or co-authored more than 100 publications, including 3 books. His research interests include a variety of areas of Functional Analysis, and his work has left many deep results. These include numerous key works on minimax theorems, the "Simons inequality" in the context of bounded-convergence theorems, and his more recent focus on Convex Analysis and Monotone Operator Theory, to name just a few. His work has been a driving force behind the still on-going revolution in Monotone Operator Theory, through his many deep and elegant papers demonstrating an insightful and exciting use of Fitzpatrick functions. His latest book from 2008, "From Hahn-Banach to Monotonicity", is a milestone in modern Monotone Operator Theory. It presents the state of the art, and introduces many new techniques and constructions, including the since-termed "Simons space". His list of open problems has focused the research efforts of the entire community and was instrumental in the renaissance of Monotone Operator Theory.
