Homology spheres and contractible compact manifolds

Conditions are found for which $PL$-homeomorphic homology spheres are diffeomorphic. It is shown that compact contractible manifolds with diffeomorphic boundaries are diffeomorphic. An analog of the group $\Gamma_n$ of pseudoisotopies is investigated for compact contractible manifolds.
