Abelian groups which are narrow with respect to a topology

The notion of narrow (in the sense of Łos) group is generalized to topological abelian groups. The characterizations are proposed of a narrow group with respect to a given topology, in terms of subgroups, and also of groups which are narrow with respect to some topologies that are classical in the theory of abelian groups.
