A contemporary mind of an old scientist, Archimedes is a nice and inventive model of hero of science, who has still something interesting to say with his extraordinary achievements in the squaring of the circle, the volumes of the cylinder and the sphere, the conoids, spirals and polyhedrons and in other fields like physics and engineering. His message to our times is, however, in his Enlightenment trust for the progress of sciences and above all for the sense of responsibility of any researcher towards the civil and political events of his own generation.
