Questo articolo celebra il mio ritiro in pensione. Contrariamente alla pratica comune, in esso non si narra di specifici eventi della mia vita professionale. Piuttosto sono descritte proprietà di numeri che, per una serie di ragioni, hanno avuto qualche connessione con la mia carriera. L'articolo inizia con il numero 11, pieno di speranze, e si conclude con l'inquietante 65. Dovrebbe rendersi chiaro come l'attrazione per i numeri abbia completamente catturato i miei pensieri.
This paper celebrates my retirement. Contrary to the common practice, it does not relate specific events of my professional life. Instead, it describes properties of numbers which, for a variety of reasons, had some connection with my career. It begins with the hopeful number 11 and concludes with the ominous 65. It should become clear how fascination with numbers has enslaved my thoughts.
