The great achievements of XXth century science were fostered by a conception following which pure and applied science should be considered as the components of a unique strictly integrated system, in which the development of theoretical research is a necessary premise of the development of the system as a whole. In the last decades this equilibrium was more and more considered as un- necessary and the applicative and technological aspects were privileged against pure research, following a criterion of usefulness. In this paper this developments are described and the negative consequences that they imply mainly the risk of steri- lizing science itself are analyzed. Furthermore the problem of the limits that could possibly be imposed to technological applications of science, and the forms of the present relationships between technoscience and ethics are discussed.
