The purpose of this paper is to prove some common fixed point theorems in metric and 2-metric spaces for two pairs of weakly compatible mappings satisfying an implicit relation which unify and generalize most of the existing relevant fixed point theorems. As an application of our main result, a Bryant type fixed point theorem is also derived besides furnishing two illustrative examples.
