Wizerunek miast konurbacji górnośląskiej – wyzwanie przełamywania stereotypów

The paper presents perception of Upper-Silesian conurbation among the students of Tourism and Recreation studies at Pedagogical University in Cracow. Katowice and other cities of the conurbation are changing abandoning developed industrial functions toward metropolitan, including tourist, ones. Research results prove that those actual changes are not followed by enhancement of the image of those cities and change of their stereotypic perception, despite the effort of particular town halls and of the marshal’s office. Katowice is an exception from the other cities of Silesian metropolitan area. In opinion of respondents Katowice is not only an industrial area but also a city with many tourist attractions and places to spend free time. There’s no doubt that Katowicka Strefa Kultury is one of the main reason of that state of affairs.
