On a tiling scheme from M. C. Escher
The electronic journal of combinatorics, The Wilf Festschrift volume, Tome 4 (1997) no. 2
Escher studied certain tilings by decorated square tiles arranged into $2\times 2$ supertiles which are copied and translated to fill the plane. It is found that there are exactly 154 such tilings, if reflections of the tilings are allowed. Illustrations of all of them are presented.
